These fish require a large and roomy aquarium and should only be housed with fish of their own species or others that can handle themselves. Try decorating your tank with a soft sandy substrate with plenty of large rocks, driftwood, and plastic plants. While these cichlids are by no means lightweights they still enjoy the secrurity of hiding places, so keep that in mind when decorating your tank. The Black Belt Cichlid is omnivorous and will accept a large varierty of foods. Beefheart, krill, insects, vegatables based food, and pellets are all great choices.
